PILOT PROGRAMS
The Writers Hall of Fame® of America has instituted several pilot programs in Missouri in order to determine the best way for our organization to help in the inspiration, encouragement and facilitation of writing. Those programs deemed successful in fulfilling this mission will be replicated in other states across the nation.
Author Speaker Bureau
In conjunction with the Missouri State Hall, Writers Hall of Fame® of America has developed a unique program called the Author Speakers Bureau. Its purpose is to facilitate author visits to classrooms for students of all ages to aid in keeping the students enthused about writing and practicing their writing skills.
The State Hall in each state will recruit authors from throughout the state who are willing to participate in this program. Then, whenever a teacher wants an author to visit their classroom, they simply contact the State Hall and ask for an author visit from someone who meets their criteria. That criteria may pertain to such matters as age appropriateness of the author’s works, a specific genre the author should have written in, the author’s required honorarium (if one is required by the author), etc. The State Hall will then use their database to find the author who fits the criteria and lives closest to the school so travel expenses (if any) can be kept to a minimum.
-- This pilot program was developed through the Writers Hall of Fame® of America‘s partnership with the Nixa R-II School District in Nixa, Missouri. The partnership with Nixa Schools exists to explore ways that WHoFoA can help teachers in elementary and secondary schools keep their students excited about writing, about learning to write and about the act of writing.
Writing for Success
In conjunction with the Missouri State Hall, Writers Hall of Fame® of America has developed a Curriculum for Business Communication that State Halls will be able to co-sponsor with their Hub University. The purpose of this program is to make our business people better communicators via the written word. The courses are taught by the university and the business community is made aware of these classes through announcements by chambers of commerce, manufacturing associations, etc. Courses within this Writing For Success program may include such topics as “Basic Business Writing for the Up and Comer,” “Executive Report Writing,” “Software Fundamentals for Business Communication,” “Writing the Persuasive Business Letter,” etc.
-- This pilot program was developed through the Writers Hall of Fame® of America‘s partnership with Southwest Missouri State University, its College of Arts & Letters, its English Department, its Continuing Education Department and its Professional Writing Program.
